The Party Is Not Over!

Nothing like some bling to shake the January blues. I can’t say that I have been suffering much from cold weather here in Austin, Texas. It’s 75 degrees as I am writing this, and I am back in sandals at least for today. Luckily, I don’t have anything but native plants in the yard, and hopefully they know more about Austin weather than I do.

I said I was working on some fun things this last week, well, all my hats are pretty fun. But I always love some sparkles when I am done. Enter this week’s listing: Sandy. You might think Sandy is a beret, but she isn’t. She is actually the same shape as my Goldie with the matching veil, except perched at a different angle and hugs the face lower. I tell ya, placement is everything.

This is my first all sequin piece, and I am hoping for more in button form coming soon. I have two shelves of sequined fabric waiting for debut. If only I had three more pairs of hands and eyes. By the way, Coral is the new “IT” color for the season. But don’t worry, no one is going to miss coral in the Sandy fascinator. There is just too much to enjoy there.

In the studio this week, I have been learning to sew straw braid without a braid machine. I have toyed with getting a vintage machine, but fear that I won’t really know how to work them or find people who can fix them for me in the area. I can’t do a chain stitch on my machine, but it has worked out in a straight stitch. I opted not using a zig zag because I didn’t want the stitching to show, but I might be wrong. But so far, so good.
