New Horizons
I decided to end my year in August and pass on creating a cool weather and holiday collection. I finished this year like any good designer, with some bridal and special occasion samples for those who want a head start for next year’s festivities or have Fall/Winter weddings. (Hopefully, before or after another lockdown.) It’s not to say that we shouldn’t be hopeful, but the idea that Covid is going away is now a fairytale.
For those interested, I did add back some hats to my Etsy shop—all 60 percent discounted. I think my Etsy shop is a great place for clearance pieces from past seasons. Not all will be available, but do check it out HERE. I tend to keep many of my art pieces in my personal collection, so if there is something you covet enough, please don’t hesitate to inquire. I am always amenable to work something out or offer a similar (but not exact) replication.
I dreamt recently that I should shut down my hat business. I was shocked by what my subconscious mind was thinking or trying to convey. I don’t think I could ever stop creating hats, but after careful meditation, I realized the message was for me to spend my energies on something different in order for my craft to grow. I found this to be true with my sewing skills, which improved drastically after learning millinery. The idea of internal expansion is not linear or walking endlessly down that infinite path. It is about paving a wider road which ultimately broadens our peripheral. Isn’t that a God given gift really? To see beyond our limits.
It’s also a wonderful exercise to keep us from burning out from the things we love. Because even passion without rest or change will run its course. Could I refrain from being tempted to make something new before the end of 2021? If inspiration beckons; I will most certainly answer the call. But for now, I am excited about my new adventures. Be sure to look for me on Instagram: mad.duchess to see what I am getting up to creatively.
